Grand Bazaar is the most popular shopping place in Istanbul. Istanbul actually has the largest shopping malls in Europe. However, shopping in the Grand Bazaar, a 500-year-old historical building, is a different experience.
As the Grand Bazaar consists of 67 streets and 3000 shops, it can be difficult to find directions for first timers. Since Kalpakcilarbasi Street between Gate 1 and Gate 7 is the main street, it makes it easier to find directions.
The Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque / Ayasofya-i Kebir Cami-i Şerifi, with its innovative architecture, rich history, religious significance and extraordinary characteristics has been fighting against time for centuries, was the largest Eastern Roman Church in Istanbul. Constructed three times in the same location, it is the world’s oldest and fastest-completed cathedral. With its breathtaking domes that look like hanging in the air, monolithic marble columns and unparalleled mosaics, is one of the wonders of world’s architecture history.Hagia Sophia pose on the ground of the first hill of Istanbul, precisely at the tip of the historic peninsula, surrounded by the Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn on three sides.
The building has several names. Turks call the building Ayasofya. In English, the name of the building is St. Sophia.
The Sultanahmet district is the historic district of Istanbul. There are so many things to visit that you can easily spend the week there, however, we recommend that you do not spend more than half of your holiday in this area. Istanbul is much more than that, and if you want to discover its true face, you have to go to other neighborhoods a little less touristy.
Waterfront Beşiktaş centers on its boisterous fish market, surrounded by a dense maze of narrow streets that are dotted with neighborhood shops, laid-back bars, and simple restaurants. Opulent 19th-century Dolmabahçe Palace and the Maritime Museum overlook the Bosphorus. Locals throng the busy Saturday produce market, while picnic spots can be found in nearby Abbasağa Park and Yıldız Park.
Besiktas is one of the oldest districts and neighborhoods of Istanbul, located on the European side of the city. It's also considered as one of the city centers, both residential and commercial especially for small businesses. At the same time, besides having a major public bus and dolmus terminal, Besiktas is also one of the sea hubs on the Bosphorus from which boats depart for various neighborhoods on the shores of the Asian side.
Besiktas is the capital of culture, art and education of Istanbul, but it is also the most valuable region of the Bosphorus with its Ortakoy, Arnavutkoy, Kurucesme and Bebek neighborhoods. Besiktas is also a great area where you can observe the living Istanbul in the best way, as well as one of the most important transportation hub.
Strolling around the Besiktas Square, watching the crowd, having a rest and drinking tea or coffee at the various cafes nearby the sea in the company of Bosphorus is one of the best things to do in Besiktas.
Karaköy is located right in front of the old town, near the Galata Bridge and down the famous Tower of the same name. It covers an area from the banks of the Golden Horn to the Bosphorus. The first traces of urbanization dates back to the Byzantine Empire, it is therefore one of the most historical and important places of the city. It is still a condensed of Istanbul with different populations living close to each other.
Ortakoy is one of the most popular, lively and attractive neighborhood of Besiktas, located just by the Bosphorus and under the Bosphorus Bridge. Ortakoy is also another popular nightlife and entertainment centers of Istanbul with its variety of great cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants, shops, boutiques, baked potato & souvenir shops.
And Ortakoy Mosque is without a doubt, one of the popular photo taking spots and symbols of Istanbul.
Galataport is a cruise ship port and mixed-use property currently (as of early 2021) under development in the Galata neighbourhood of Istanbul, Turkey. It is located on the European shore of the Bosporus strait, by its confluence with the Golden Horn.
